45 Schools and around 5000 pupils got masks, hand sanitizer, boxes of soaps and handwashing boxes to protect them from the Coronavirus diseases.

Background: Madagascar eased lockdown after four weeks of restrictions.
Pupils who are in preparation of official exams went back to school when new measures have been declared on April 20 th, 2020 by the President of the Republic. Those children were exposed to a higher risk of contamination if compared to the main population who remained at home. That is why the YMCA decided to give help-support in front of COVID-19 in differents public school in Antsirabe and Moramanga.

Young volunteers at the forefront of the action

30 young volunteers from YMCA Moramanga and YMCA Antsirabe went to these schools to sensitize the pupils on the risks of contamination of the virus and taught how to protect themselves from it. Handwashing techniques and barrier gestures were hammered out during the awareness session. Before conducting these sensitizations, these young volunteers were trained by a specialist doctor from public health care

On June 30th, 2020, the head of the school district of Antsirabe II and Moramanga region officially received the donation from YMCA Madagascar.

The teachers and administrative staff of the primary, secondary and high school of Manandona, Andranomanelatra and Moramanga town were grateful for this support from the YMCA. The Head of Ambohimandroso Primary school in Moramanga region said:  » We are very thankful to YMCA for giving us these hygiene kits and preventive materials, it will help us to protect ourselves from the Coronavirus and especially for the kids who are happy to wear new face-masks »

Reminder: the purpose of this action is to give material and technical support to schools and professional centres of Moramanga and Antsirabe
in order to maintain a good preventive system against Covid-19 and to strengthen the resilience of exam class pupils by supporting them in the appropriation of preventive gestures that will protect them from the pandemic during this period of a health emergency.

Currently, the whole Malagasy territory has returned to total lockdown and all schools have been closed again.
