In Madagascar, many young women face significant family responsibilities at an early age, often in contexts marked by economic hardship and limited opportunities. Becoming a mother at a young age, and sometimes alone, goes far beyond a personal challenge, it is a daily journey of resilience.
It is within this context that YMCA Madagascar, through the Fanantenana Project, aims to support young single mothers towards sustainable economic empowerment and a better future for themselves and their children.
As part of this initiative, a dedicated session for beneficiaries was held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at YMCA Antsirabe. The session brought together 20 young single mothers engaged in starting or strengthening small-scale income-generating activities.
During the session, participants benefited from financial support, distribution of goodies, and an exchange session facilitated by Zoky Tsikiniaina Andriherindrainy, focusing on experience sharing and how to effectively plan the use of the financial support received.
The objective of the session was to support participants in concretely planning their activities after receiving financial assistance. This session enabled them to:
- better plan their activities after receiving financial support,
- identify income-generating opportunities adapted to their context,
- structure and strengthen their economic initiatives,
- make more informed and strategic decisions for their future.
Beyond material support, this session strengthened their ability to project themselves forward, take informed decisions, and consider sustainable solutions to meet the needs of their children.
Today, they initiated a collective dynamic through the creation of their own network, “Fandresena” which means “victory”, built on solidarity and mutual support.
