YMCA Madagascar

Brief HISTORY

YMCA Madagascar has been established in Madagascar in 1924 by a French missionary, Jean Beigbeder, who introduced the association as a branch of the French Protestant Mission. Struggling during different political regimes, the organization was able to resume activities in the early 90s and was officially registered on August 23rd, 1995. YMCA Madagascar is part of the global YMCA Movement, united with over 120 countries through the World Alliance of YMCAs. It is also an active member of the Africa Alliance of YMCAs , the umbrella body for all YMCAs across Africa. Thus, YMCA Madagascar works for and with young people in 8 branches spread out in 6 regions of Madagascar; through programs, projects and activities, with the sole aim of unlocking their potential for personal and holistic development. In this way, YMCA Madagascar engages young people to be responsible and concerned citizens, and at the same time contributes to a positive change in their quality of life. YMCA Madagascar aims holistic approach, ensuring the personal development and transformation of the individual and its integration into the community and its influence to bring positive and sustainable change. YMCA interventions do not only solve immediate development problems but also build resilience for young people and improve their environment for a better life.
