YMCA Madagascar

Brief History

Founded in 1924 by French missionary Jean Beigbeder, the YMCA movement took root in Madagascar through the French Protestant Mission. Like the country itself, the organization went through challenging periods under different political regimes before regaining momentum in the early 1990s. It was officially registered on August 23, 1995. Today, YMCA Madagascar is part of the global YMCA movement, present in more than 120 countries worldwide, and an active member of the Africa Alliance of YMCAs. We work with and for young people through eight branches across six regions of Madagascar. Our programs, projects, and activities are designed to help young people discover their potential and grow in a holistic way. By promoting responsibility, civic engagement, and community involvement, we support young people in becoming active citizens and agents of change. Our approach goes beyond responding to immediate needs; we focus on building resilience, strengthening communities, and creating positive, sustainable change.

Youth-Focused Organization

YMCA Madagascar, the oldest and largest youth organization in the country, has been a cornerstone of community development and youth empowerment for over a century. Its enduring commitment and extensive reach have transformed it into a dynamic force for positive change across the nation.
