Youth-Led Community Awareness, One Household at a Time

In Tsenengea, Toliara, waste management is not just an environmental issue, it is part of everyday life. From household waste disposal to hygiene practices, these challenges directly affect both the cleanliness of the neighborhood and the health of the families living there.

To respond to this reality, the Green Ambassadors of YMCA Tuléar carried out a community awareness campaign, reaching 15 households. Through direct exchanges, they shared practical guidance on hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and responsible waste management at the household level.

But beyond awareness, the initiative led to immediate, visible changes. Several households began organizing designated areas for waste disposal, while others committed to no longer dumping waste in open spaces around their homes. In some cases, families took the initiative to clean their surroundings right after the session — a small but concrete step toward healthier living conditions.

The campaign also sparked honest conversations. Residents shared their daily challenges and identified simple, realistic actions they could adopt. These exchanges helped transform awareness into commitment, with many households expressing their willingness to maintain cleaner and safer environments moving forward.

This initiative is a clear example of youth in action. By engaging directly with communities, the Green Ambassadors are not just raising awareness, they are triggering practical behavior change, one household at a time.
