YMCA Switzerland Meets YMCA Madagascar for a Cultural Exchange and Visit

YMCA Madagascar recently had the honor of welcoming Geraldine Konrad-Maier from YMCA Switzerland, a newly certified Change Agent of Cohort 5, accompanied by her husband Thomas, for an inspiring cultural exchange visit across several branches.

Their journey began with a warm and meaningful encounter with young members of YMCA Toliara. This session offered a valuable opportunity for both sides to share traditions, experiences, and cultural values, fostering a spirit of mutual understanding and friendship.

Building on this first exchange, the visit continued in Antananarivo at the Youth Power Space Ankerana on November 20, 2024, where members of the Y-Music, Y-Movie, and Y-English clubs came together to offer creative and engaging activities. Their involvement reflected the energy and potential of youth collaboration, as well as the role of culture in strengthening community ties.

Beyond her visit, Geraldine left a lasting impression on the Y-Music Club, not only by supporting the preparation and celebration of its second anniversary, but also by contributing to the closing event held at YMCA Ankerana: “YMCA Award Day.” This special day was dedicated to acknowledging the efforts of board members throughout their mandates and honoring the most outstanding clubs of the year.

Her financial support played a key role in the success of the Y-Music Club’s anniversary concert, held on December 14, 2024, an event remembered for its creativity, celebration, and spirit of unity.

We are deeply grateful to Geraldine and Thomas for their time, kindness, and generosity. Their presence strengthened the bonds between our communities and inspired our young leaders to keep building meaningful connections beyond borders. “When we open our hearts to other cultures we discover the world within ourselves as we learn from one another while celebrating what makes us unique.”
