YMCA Madagascar’s Celebration of International Sports Day

Since its founding, the YMCA has played a major role in the development of sports worldwide. Did you know that some of today’s most popular sports, such as basketball and volleyball, were invented within the YMCA? This strong historical connection perfectly illustrates the central place sport holds in the YMCA’s mission: promoting health, social cohesion, and personal development among youth.

From June 28 to 30, 2025, as part of the International Sports Day organized by the MJS (Ministère de la Jeunesse et des Sports), YMCA Madagascar proudly participated in this major national event. Through a dedicated booth, various activities, and active participation in the Urban Trail, the YMCA highlighted its ongoing commitment to encouraging sports practice and upholding its core values.

Over the three days, more than 150 visitors stopped by the YMCA Madagascar booth, eager to learn about the organization’s activities and values. These exchanges helped raise awareness about the fundamental role of sport in promoting peace, social cohesion, and sustainable development.

On Sunday, June 29, several YMCA members took part in the Urban Trail, held in partnership with the Rotary Club to support the global End Polio campaign. After the race, they also joined a large group megazumba session at Stade Barea Mahamasina, further strengthening community spirit and fellowship.

Beyond this celebration, YMCA Madagascar keeps promoting sport as a vital tool for youth’s social and personal growth. For us, sport is more than physical activity. It carries values, solidarity, and hope.
