“Green Idea – A Youth-Led Environment Protection and Education”

Young people across Madagascar are raising their voices for the planet. To better understand their priorities and concerns, YMCA Madagascar conducted a youth consultation in Antsirabe and Tuléar, feeding directly into our upcoming initiative: “Green Idea – A Youth-Led Environment Protection and Education”, supported by Global Youth Mobilization (GYM).

Through digital surveys and virtual focus groups from vulnerable and underserved young people aged 15 to 30, shared their voices, concerns, and ideas about climate challenges in their communities.

The findings were powerful:

  • 91% pointed to plastic pollution as a top issue,
  • 75% highlighted deforestation,
  • 51% said that it’s caused of industrial Pollution for the Antsirabe

  • And others shared around mangrove destruction and unsustainable farming.

Importantly, 80% of respondents have already taken part in environmental actions, showing a strong commitment to protecting their communities. But many expressed a desire to be involved beyond just activities, they want a seat at the table in shaping solutions.

This consultation strengthens our project design and affirms our mission: to build inclusive, youth-driven solutions to protect our environment and empower our future leaders.
