A Greener Future Takes Root: YMCA Madagascar in Action for a Sustainable Planet!

Did you know that Madagascar loses thousands of hectares of forest every year?

This alarming deforestation is driven by factors like illegal logging, charcoal production, and unsustainable agricultural practices. The loss of these vital forests not only threatens the rich biodiversity of the island but also accelerates climate change and impacts local communities. At YMCA Madagascar, we are committed to reversing the trend of deforestation through our reforestation efforts, which aim to protect and restore these precious ecosystems. This year, our branches across Madagascar have come together to plant 4,000 trees, reinforcing our mission to create a healthier, greener environment for future generations.

YMCA Ankerana & YMCA Analamanga

In collaboration with Bôndy, our dedicated members and teams at the YMCA Ankerana and the YMCA Analamanga planted 2,500 young trees in Mahitsy on 1, March, taking a powerful step toward a more sustainable future. This effort is not just about planting trees, it’s about connecting with nature, and taking tangible actions that will benefit the environment for generations to come. After the planting, all participants gathered for a moment of connection and reflection, reinforcing the spirit of unity, commitment, and the shared responsibility we all have in protecting our planet.

YMCA Antsirabe

In Andranomanelatra, YMCA Antsirabe proudly planted 1,000 trees, thanks to the generous support of “Cœur de Forêt”. This reforestation initiative was not just a step toward a greener future, but a true testament to the power of community and the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.

Our young volunteers at the YMCA Antsirabe demonstrated their unwavering commitment by giving their time, energy, and passion to make this effort a reality. Following the planting, the team came together to reflect on the day’s accomplishments, engage in team building activities, and share a communal meal, reinforcing the spirit of unity and collaboration that is at the heart of this initiative.

YMCA Moramanga

200 trees were planted in Marovoay by YMCA Moramanga, in partnership with Voary Voakazy and Fanalamanga. Along with the planting, an awareness session was held to emphasize the importance of reforestation, further enhancing the local community’s engagement in environmental protection efforts.

None of this would be possible without the incredible commitment of our volunteers and partners. “Together, we are taking meaningful steps toward a greener, more sustainable future.”
