66 young volunteers from the « Development Alternative » received food basket and masks to carry out their mission as agent of change in their communities.

The « Development Alternative » program

The Development Alternative is a new consortium co-designing alternative ways to do development that are truly led by young people.

We used to hear that young people are the future of the nation, but most of development actors places them as ‘beneficiaries’ rather than individuals capable of leading development. Young people are not trusted to be able to lead solutions.

This is what the Development Alternative program wants to make a change:  rebalance the power so that development is truly led by young people and their communities. A total of 30 volunteers in Moramanga and 30 volunteers in Antsirabe were thus trained to involve in their locality to animate the local population to engage in the various community projects and to be a guarantor of transparency and social accountability.

Impact of Covid-19

Taking into account the current context (COVID-19), all youth volunteers were invited to stay at home. This is why the YMCA decided to provide basic necessities to help better supporting them to continue, to contribute and to achieve the objectives set under the program.
